Hobbs, Upchurch & Associates has completed roadway, bridge,
streetscape and airport projects throughout the Carolinas. In addition, many of
our site development projects involved extensive roadway design components. Services
offered in this area include: - Roadway, Parking, and Pavement Design
- Streetscape Design
- Land Use and Transportation Planning
- Airport
Planning and Design
- Construction Management and Inspection
Ft.
Bragg, North Carolina Roadway Design Designed roadways, streets and parking
for numerous routes and sites on the Fort Bragg Military Reservation. The construction
and improvement projects were completed in multiple phases. Roads included Gruber
Road, Ardennes, Lae, Los Banos, Tagaytay, and Honeycutt. Roads. Camp Lejeune,
North Carolina Roadway Design
Prepared roadway design plans for Exchange
Road Extension involving the construction of 3-lane road with shoulders from the
existing 5-lane road. Responsible for traffic study, 2,200 LF of roadway design,
drainage and traffic signal plans, pipe culverts at wetland location, and water
and sewer lines. Groometown Road Bridge Replacement Ongoing
NCDOT concrete girder bridge replacement including roadway and hydraulic design,
structure design, erosion control plans and traffic control plans. This project
was unique because the original road design was raised by 23 feet to allow room
for the new Randleman Lake which is currently under construction and the hydraulic
design dealt with the lake water when analyzing the flow of the Deep River under
the bridge. Another interesting factor for this project required temporary walls
to permit traffic flow while construction was being completed. To ensure public
transportation near a local high school was not stopped, the project was designed
around the temporary walls that were needed. Wall Road Bridge Replacement
Removal of an existing wood bridge to be replaced with a triple reinforced concrete
box culvert. HUA designed roadway as well as structural design of the box culvert.
The original road grade of this NCDOT arterial road was raised by almost 20 feet
to allow for the Randleman Lake. New culverts utilized standard NCDOT headwall
detail. Design included NCDOT roadway, hydraulics, traffic control and pavement
marking plan and NCDENR erosion control plan. Southside Sidewalk
Project, Lancaster, South Carolina HUA provided the design, coordination,
and construction management of a TEA-funded sidewalk improvement project for the
City of Lancaster. This particular project included 5,690 LF of pedestrian sidewalks.
Broadway Streetscape Project, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
Design and construction management services for various streetscape improvements
for the City of Myrtle Beach. The improvements were located at the Broadway at
the Beach and included various drainage and sitework related design functions,
street widening, median installation, landscaping, and sidewalk design.
Monroe, North Carolina, Streetscape Project HUA completed design
and construction management of streetscape improvements within the downtown area
of the City of Monroe. This project included renovations, modifications, and additions
to the existing sidewalks. In addition to the sidewalks, our firm also designed
curb and gutter, pavement replacement, handicap ramps, landscaping, and lighting
fixtures. Uptown Revitalization Project, Wadesboro, North Carolina
Initial study and the final design and construction of streetscape improvements
in downtown Wadesboro. This project included the installation of brick sidewalks,
decorative street lamps, and mast arm traffic signals. Downtown Revitalization,
Tabor City, North Carolina Downtown Revitalization Project. HUA coordinated
a preliminary study with cost estimates, and then provided design and construction
management for downtown revitalization project. It consisted of the construction
of brick and concrete sidewalks, installation of historic street lamps and mast
arm traffic signals, and the placement of all overhead utilities placed underground
downtown area of Tabor City. Sanford - Lee County Regional Airport
Preparation of site selection, environmental assessment and Master Plan for a
proposed 600 acre site to be used as a reliever airport for Raleigh-Durham International
Airport. Environmental assessment included 1,500 acres of potential primary impacts
and 1,000 acres of secondary impacts. The design and surveying efforts included
coordination with the FAA, the State Department of Transportation, Division of
Aviation, and the local Airport Authority. The site also included provisions for
adjacent land uses such as industrial parks and water and wastewater treatment
facilities. Coordinated large team, including several consultants, to perform
all aspects of project. Coordinated applications and all appropriate forms for
grants to finance the project. The forms included budget, fee proposals and interim
pay requests from initiation of the project until completion. Columbus
County Regional Airport Land surveying for various airport improvement
projects, including preparation of layout plan update, stormwater management plan,
grading and erosion control plans, environmental assessment and design for extension
of runways and taxiways, and expansions to site and apron for county airport.
Also prepared maps and cost estimates and coordinated land acquisition/deed research
to facilitate future construction. Coordinated applications and all appropriate
forms for grants to finance projects, including budget, fee proposals and interim
pay requests from initiation through completion. Project was reviewed by various
State agencies and FAA. Laurinburg-Maxton Airport, North Carolina
Prepared a Master Plan and environmental assessment for an airport expansion to
accommodate an air cargo aircraft operation. Master Plan included airport layout
and plans to mitigate effects of stormwater runoff of air cargo facilities, 180,000
SY concrete apron, and two airport runways, and 6,500 LF parallel taxiway. Surveys
and design also included improvements to terminal support facilities and pavement
rehabilitation. General Aviation Airport, Elizabethtown, North Carolina Performed boundary
and topographic surveys for preparation of Master Plan for general aviation airport,
including design surveys for drainage and stormwater handling facilities. Project
also required Environmental Assessment, land acquisition/deed research, design
surveys for paving including 5,000 foot full parallel taxiway project, and surveys
for lighting design, including coordination of installation of a non-directional
beacon to serve non-precision instrument approaches to the airport. Coordinated
all designs with the FAA and with the NC DOT and managed grant applications and
submittal of all financial forms, including budget, fee proposals and interim
pay requests. Recently updated Airport and Terminal Layout plans and designed
taxiway extension for airport's private hangars.
