Following is a brief overview of some of the site development projects completed by Hobbs, Upchurch & Associates in the past several years:

Best Western Wingate Inn, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina


A 5 acre commercial development in N. Myrtle Beach. Project duties included water, sewer, storm drainage, erosion control, entrance roadway and parking design, as well as coordination with SCDHEC, OCRM and the City of North Myrtle Beach.

Biltmore Office Complex, Pinehurst, North Carolina


Site work design for 6.5 acres made up of 4 office buildings and 300 space parking facility. Work included grading, drainage, parking layout, 2000 LF gravity sewer, 700 LF water main, 1750 LF of new roadway with curb and gutter and all permits required for construction.

Food Lion, Siler City, North Carolina


Site work development for 10 acre site off of Hwy. 64. Site included 40,000 square foot Food Lion, 200 space parking lot and out parcel. Project included layout, design of drives and parking, grading, drainage, erosion control, water and sewer.

K-Mart, Southern Pines, North Carolina


KMart Shopping Center Site work design services for a new 180,000 square foot K-Mart retail building with approximately 1,200 parking spaces. Additional new roadways, water and sewer utility extensions, and all topographic surveys, site work layout and design, grading, drainage, storm water management pond, water line extensions, sanitary sewer extensions are also included in the approximate 68 acre development. K-Mart's facility comprises approximately 38 acres leaving six other out parcels for future development.

LakeShore Village at Broadway, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina


Site work design for a 42 acre commercial park. The design included permitting and coordination with DHEC and the City of Myrtle Beach, project design and construction certification for streets, storm drainage, water, sewer, and site design. Project includes infrastructure design as well as site design for two restaurants and two hotels.

Marriott Residence Inn, Morrisville, North Carolina


Site design for Marriott Residence Inn development. Project included layout, design of drives and parking, grading, drainage, erosion control, landscaping, topographic and boundary surveying, construction stakeout, ALTA as-built surveying and mapping. Geotechnical involvement included Phase I Environmental Assessment and soils report.

Queensgate Development, Lancaster County, South Carolina


Site work design for 40 acre mixed-use development that includes commercial, retail, office facilities and 154 residential units. Project includes stormwater, erosion control, grading, water/sewer utilities and DOT encroachments.

Richmond Community College, Hamlet, North Carolina


Site design for new Fine Arts Center. Duties included grading, storm drainage, erosion control, pavements and utilities. Project consisted of a 1,000-seat auditorium built on a 6.5 acre parcel of the existing campus.

Educational Complex, Fort Bragg, North Carolina


Preparation of traffic study of multiple intersections surrounding Educational Complex. Recommended improvements to maximize pedestrian safety. Assisted in the preparation of traffic study, including traffic counts, traffic flow pattern analysis, parking study and intersection analysis for new mini-mall on base.

Various Sites, North Carolina Department of Correction


Topographic surveying, designed site layout plan, and designed and managed construction/installation of roadways, parking lots, grading, stormwater drainage, water and sanitary sewer lines, gas lines and underground electric utilities services. Each facility on a campus-style compound consists of dormitories, administration buildings, food service buildings, recreation facilities, classroom and educational buildings, perimeter security fencing, inmate support services buildings, and a chase road system

Onslow County Industrial Park, North Carolina


Created a unique and original master plan concept utilizing the characteristics of the site, New River access and navigability, and wetlands opportunities for recreational facilities. Considered and created features that would enhance not only traditional economic and industrial development but foster small business opportunities like town center considerations, day care, and extension of community college facilities.

HUA prepared cost estimates and phasing plans to assist County Commissioners and economic development officials in evaluating implementation costs and schedules. We developed detailed plans and specifications for infrastructure and landscape architecture features to support and identify the project through implementation. Performed all civil engineering work and assisted in economic development grantsmanship activities.

Elizabethtown Airport and Industrial Park, North Carolina


Hobbs, Upchurch & Associates' long association with Economic Development organizations worked to double the benefits of a site development project in Bladen County, North Carolina. County officials originally defined a need for a new general aviation airport in 1986, a successful project that unfolded into an ambitious effort to establish an industrial park and enhance the economic boost to the area.

Our Sitework Division initiated Master Plan preparation for the 225 acre industrial park, which was to include water and sewer extensions, roadways, and a stormwater management system to serve the 24-lot site. As part of the Industrial Park project, Hobbs, Upchurch & Associates also designed and managed construction of 36,750 SF manufacturing plant for Somerset Technology.

Columbus County, North Carolina


Preparation of schematic master plan for 370-acre industrial park. Project included lot and road layout, landscape design, and utility design. HUA assisted the County in the application of both Community Development Block Grant-Economic Development funding and Economic Development Administration funding to provide utility and other services to related industrial clients, including the development of the Business and Industrial Training Center through the local community college. Aided in acquiring EDA funds and performed construction.

This Industrial Park currently employs approximately 500 jobs, with plans to employ at least 200 more with the latest shell building development, currently in progress.

Tabor City, North Carolina


Performed master planning and site layout for a 50 acre industrial park. HUA also aided in application and administration of approximately $900,000 in Economic Development Administration funding. These grant monies were utilized in design and construction administration of gravity sewer outfall and water main development for a business incubator facility.

Ft. Bragg Army Base, North Carolina


Hobbs, Upchurch & Associates served as the civil engineer for the construction of an 8,000 SF battalion headquarters for a Combined Arms Regional Training Battalion. Project included all site work for the facility, as well as communications, access road, parking, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, landscaping, site improvements and storm drainage, water, sewer, grading and erosion control.

Ft. Bragg Army Base, North Carolina


Hillcrest Park Brigade Area Barracks Revitalization - HUA provided site development designs, layout, drives, parking grading, drainage, site utilities, erosion controls of an 80 acre site for new barracks, dining facility, 14 office buildings, central energy plant, parachute packing facility, warehouse, airborne jump training facility.

Hillcrest Park, Moore County, North Carolina


Civil engineering design for 42 acre park site that includes a multi-use four-ball field complex with bleachers, field house and tower building, restrooms, canteen, parking lots and driveways, nature walking trails, playground area, picnic table areas, fencing, security lighting, water and sewer utilities and landscaping.
