Town of Robbins, North Carolina
The Robbins Municipal Wastewater Treatment Facility originally constructed in
1966, was upgraded in 1986 to a complete mix activated sludge plant with a
design flow of 1.0 MGD.
The 201 Facilities Plan Update for the Town of Robbins WWTP required an
Environmental Assessment and an alternatives analysis to be performed prior to
approval. The increased discharge to the Deep River in a designated High
Quality Water area heightened the need for careful considerations of the
effects of the direct and indirect impacts on the water quality in the river.
Following the Town's review, commitments from local industry and the State SRF
review it was determined to retrofit the existing WWTP.
Because of the projected demands of increased flows, infiltration/inflow, and
the need for phosphorus removal and more stringent limits of a discharge to
high quality waters, Hobbs, Upchurch and Associates was contracted to provide
an update to the 201 Facilities Plan, design an upgrade and expansion of the
existing facilities, and administer and inspect construction of the project.
