Fairmont, North Carolina HUA completed the evaluation, engineering design, and construction management and inspection for a new 1.75 MGD WWTP for the Town of Fairmont. The project involved the upgrade of an existing 0.75 MGD plant with contact stabilization aeration. The new wastewater treatment facility consists of conventional aeration with diffused aeration, common wall construction clarifiers, aerobic digestion and chlorination/dechlorination. Treatment limits for the new plant are 15 BOD and 4 Ammonia with discharge to the Lumber River in proximity to new Lumber River State Park. As part of the project HUA worked with the town to review sludge handling procedures. It was determined that the implementation of a land application program was needed for the Town. HUA helped coordinate land sites to be permitted by an outside sludge hauling contractor.
HUA was also responsible for construction management and inspection. The project included the construction of a pump station and eleven mile force main to take wastewater from the old WWTP site to the new facility.
The expansion of the Fairmont WWTP was completed in May 2002 for a cost of $4.5 million. |
